so a slightly side related issue here... I was wondering what you guys think I should do, I was thinking about monetizing my channel but that would mean adverts and two problems with adverts, firstly people who watch my channel won't be too happy, and second could I get in trouble with people like Sony, MS, Sega etc for making money out of my videos?

So I was thinking what do you guys think about me emailing the respective companies and asking for permission, is that a worthwhile idea or is it not worth it? just interested to know what you guys think

You can't get in trouble with anyone. Video footage is not subject to copyright if it is your own, nothing to worry about.

you mean if I record my own footage from a game? Ok thats cool but I have definitely had some copyright notices on my channel for footage before, specifically for the sound most of the time. So for example I had an MSR video for Dreamcast up and the intro tune to that caused me to get a copyright note, so I just thought I'd check

Yeah music is a different matter, I got one for music just because it was playing in the background at a retro show! Game music is usually fine unless its something that was a real song, if you get my meaning.
